Section 1 – Student Officers
To be considered for an executive office, the candidates must maintain a 3.0 GPA and be of sophomore status. 50% of the executive offices must be held by women. The duties of the officers are as follows:
- President: The president is responsible for setting the agenda for general meetings, planning events, and is also in charge of scholarship.
- Vice President: The vice president is responsible for aiding the president in all of her duties.
- Secretary: The secretary takes notes at Executive Board meetings as well as General meetings. The secretary is also responsible for emailing these notes to all active members as well as emailing any updates.
- Treasurer: The treasurer is responsible for all funds. The treasurer will work closely with the advisor as well as Tribunal to make sure that the books are correct.
- Webmaster: The webmaster is responsible for all electronic media. Her main duty is to keep the UC/SALD website up to date.
Section 2- Elections
For the first year, the founding members will hold the executive offices. Summer Quarter elections will be held during the last meeting of the academic year. Incoming officers must attend a transition meeting with outgoing officers.
Section 3- Executive Board
The Executive Board consists of the Executive Officers and will regulate policies, activities, discipline, and budget management. The Board will meet regularly and at the president’s call.
Section 4- University Advisor
The advisor must be a current faculty member who is willing to provide time and input. The advisor must also be able to attend one meeting a quarter, either the Executive Board or general meeting. The advisor ensures consistency of activities, certifies academic standing of executive board members, co-signs checks, and is aware of regulations dealing with funds.
Section 5- Special Committees
Special committees will be created or approved by the Executive Board on an as-needed basis.
Section 6- Meetings
Meetings will be held once a month. Active members are required to attend each monthly meeting unless previously excused by the Executive Board (excused absences include co-op, class, medical emergencies, etc). Meeting minutes will be posted online by the secretary for review.
Section 7- Revenue
Funding for official events will be provided by the organization’s University Budget. Non-official events funding will be gained through fund raisers. The Executive Board has final approval of all funds. A specific member or members designated by this organization shall be responsible for payment in full of all debts accumulated by the organization not covered by funds on deposit.
Section 8- Discipline
Not meeting academic standards set forth by the constitution for one quarter will result in probation. The member will be notified in a timely manner and failure to correct the situation will result in suspension or expulsion from the organization. Furthermore, any disorderly or inappropriate behavior of members can result in their expulsion from the organization. Suspended members lose all ties, financial and other to the organization.
Section 9- Impeachment
If conflict should arise involving officers, impeachment shall be considered. A petition with 1/3 of the members’ signatures will be required to be presented to the Board. The Board will notify officers and call for a vote within 14 days of the petition being filed. Membership will be notified within in one week of the impeachment voting. A meeting will be held for removal where the grievances will be made public and the officer will be allowed to make a statement. Full removal of the officer requires a 2/3 majority vote of all members.
Section 10-Vacancy of Office
The Executive Board shall appoint an interim acting officer in the case of resignation or removal of any officer. The president will call for an election within 14 days after vacancy of any office and conducted as stated in Section 2. In the event of presidential vacancy, the vice president shall complete the president’s term and a new vice-president shall be elected.
Section 11-Rules of Order
“Robert’s Rules of Order, Revised” shall be parliamentary authority for all matters of procedure not specifically covered by bylaws.
Section 12- Amendments of Bylaws
Amendments to the bylaws may be made at any general meeting. The change must be proposed to the Executive Board for inclusion in the agenda for the general meeting. A 2/3 majority vote by active members must be reached for an amendment to be passed. When the University of Cincinnati switches to a semester system, the bylaws must be reviewed and timelines changed to those that would best fit a semester system.
Section 13-Dissolution
If the College of Applied Science Honorary ceases to exist at the University of Cincinnati, funds can be transferred to an organization whose mission is similar to the defunct student group.
Section 14-Non-Hazing Clause/Discrimination
This organization shall comply with all University and campus policies and regulations, in additions to all local, state and federal laws.
