Winter 2010 Wrap Up
14 03 2010Hello All!
There will be an executive board meeting this Wednesday (3/17) at 6pm. We will be discussing next quarter as well as officer selection and transitions. All are welcome!
Also, I recently attended the University of Cincinnati’s Presidential Luncheon. The key note speakers were Rebecca Lehman of SALD, Stephen L. Simendinger, President of the Alumni Association, and Dr. Mitchell Livingston, Vice-President of Student Affairs & Services and Chief Diversity Officer. It was wonderful to sit down with other leaders on campus to swap stories and to recieve wise words from the aforementioned speakers. I am happy to say that I will be implementing some new things for spring quarter and can’t wait to get started!
Good luck on finals and enjoy a safe spring break!

CEAS Dean Q&A
18 11 2009Ok so I have to admit that I was quite heated at the tribunal meeting yesterday. Not too sure the new dean made such a good impression on OCAS students. But here’s what I see, there are going to be benefits to the merger. Although it will be difficult at first since the curriculums haven’t been finalized yet, but even though the humanities classes will be through A&S in the future, this could be good because of the addition of students from other majors. It will more than likely be a good way to meet new people and get a little more from the ‘college experience.’ Besides that, the new Dean said that there are two main benefits: Improving the value of majors and the experience obtained.
While he may have some point, I have to say that when it came to how this will benefit those majors getting cut, he was quite defensive and didn’t explain a thing. All in all, I think this merger will be messy and there will be a lot of disgruntled students and teachers, but in the long run, I suppose it will be beneficial.
On to other news, there will most likely be a meeting held within the next few weeks to discuss new business and meet our new members.

In light of the merger…
2 11 2009Here’s what was learned from the tribunal meeting with Dean Arthur:
- This June’s graduating class will be the last to graduate from the College of Applied Science. Afterwards, graduates will be the College of Engineering and Applied Science.
- Within the College of Engineering and Applied Science there will be 7 different colleges that encompass most of OCAS’ current majors, however some (Chemical Technology) are being eliminated. I am working on getting a copy of how the majors are divided.
- OCAS campus will most likely be a ‘lab only’ campus so all lecture courses will be taken on main. No word yet on the transportation issue that will bring.
- All humanities courses will eventually be taken through McMicken College of Arts and Sciences. Not sure how soon this will begin, but I believe as of this summer 2010.
Also, if anyone is interested in meeting the new Dean of the University as a whole, he will be at OCAS’ tribunal meeting next Tuesday Nov. 10th at 1pm. This would be a good time to come and voice your opinion on the merger.
Thanks,
Kim
